Laurentian University in Canada offers several scholarships for both local and international students who wish to study at the university. These scholarships are open to undergraduate and postgraduate students across different degree programs.
Benefits
Undergraduate Scholarships
Undergraduate students can receive up to $60,000 CAD for excellent academic performance.
- Awards are renewable yearly at $15,000 CAD per year, provided the student maintains good academic standing.
Graduate Scholarships
For postgraduate students, Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) are available. These are offered to qualified full-time students (both local and international) who meet the minimum grade requirements.
- The GTA award is part employment and part fellowship.
- For the 2025–2026 academic year, the value of the GTA is:
- $10,034 CAD for Master’s (M.Sc.) students
- $14,547 CAD for Ph.D. students
Eligibility
To qualify for the Laurentian University Scholarships, applicants must:
- Meet both country-specific and faculty-specific admission requirements.
- Meet the English language requirements (some applicants are exempt).
For Nigerian students:
- You must have valid WASSCE results with C4 or higher grades.
- You are not required to present an English proficiency certificate.
Other requirements:
- Students with a previous degree are not eligible for the International Academic Excellence Scholarship.
- To renew the scholarship, students must:
- Have studied full-time in the previous year (30 credits total, with at least 24 taken during Fall/Winter).
- Maintain a minimum average of 80% (GPA 7.5).
For Graduate Applicants:
- Must hold a relevant bachelor’s degree before applying.
- Some programs require finding a graduate supervisor before applying.
- Must be registered full-time.
- Master’s students are eligible for 2 years, and Ph.D. students for 4 years.
- Must have at least a B+ average (75%) to qualify.
