WAEC Issues Notice on Change of Exam Location for Candidates in Lagos for Ongoing External SSCE (GCE)

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a change in examination centers for candidates in Lagos participating in the ongoing 2024 external Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), commonly known as the General Certificate Examination (GCE). This change, which affects specific examination centers within Lagos State, is aimed at ensuring a smooth and organized examination process.

WAEC has advised all affected candidates to take note of these new locations and follow the instructions carefully to avoid disruptions in their exam schedules.

Details of the Location Change

WAEC, in an official statement, noted that the change in locations affects only certain centers within Lagos. The adjustment was made due to logistical challenges, unforeseen circumstances, or infrastructural improvements needed in specific venues. WAEC has assured candidates that these changes will not affect their examination schedules, as exams will proceed at the new centers at the originally scheduled times.

Affected candidates will receive notifications through various channels, including SMS and email, with information on their reassigned exam locations. Candidates can also verify their updated exam centers by logging into the WAEC portal.

Important Guidelines for Affected Candidates

  1. Arrive Early at the New Location: WAEC advises all candidates to arrive at least 30 minutes early at the new exam centers to familiarize themselves with the venue layout and ensure a seamless entry process.
  2. Present Your Exam Slip: Candidates should bring their examination slip and a valid means of identification to the new centers to confirm their eligibility for the exam.
  3. Comply with WAEC Exam Guidelines: Candidates are reminded to follow WAEC’s standard examination rules, including dressing modestly, adhering to prohibited items regulations, and maintaining exam decorum.
  4. Contact WAEC Support for Clarifications: For any uncertainties, candidates can reach out to WAEC’s support through their customer service lines or official email address.

Reasons for the Change in Location

WAEC has cited several reasons for the last-minute location adjustments, which may include:

  • Infrastructure Improvements: Some centers may be undergoing renovation or repairs, prompting WAEC to move candidates to ensure a conducive exam environment.
  • Overcrowding Management: Due to high registration numbers in Lagos, WAEC may redistribute candidates to different centers to minimize overcrowding and improve exam conditions.
  • Security Concerns: To ensure the safety of candidates and staff, WAEC may relocate candidates from centers where security challenges have been identified.

The council has assured candidates that these measures are in place to safeguard the integrity of the examination and to provide a comfortable environment conducive to their success.

Final Thoughts

Candidates affected by this location change are encouraged to stay informed and comply with the new arrangements to avoid any confusion on their exam days. WAEC remains committed to delivering a seamless examination experience and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all candidates. For further inquiries, candidates should visit the WAEC official website or contact their customer service representatives.

WAEC also encourages candidates to regularly check their emails, SMS, and the WAEC portal for any additional updates regarding the 2024 GCE examination in Lagos. We wish all candidates the best in their upcoming examinations.
