Established in March 2023, the CCW aims to foster literary excellence by providing a supportive environment for both aspiring and established writers. The center offers a range of programs tailored to various creative interests, ensuring participants can deeply engage with the art of writing.
Postgraduate Programs Offered
The CCW provides the following postgraduate programs:
Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Writing (PGD)
- Duration: 8 months
- Description: This program serves as an introduction to creative writing, covering various genres and foundational techniques.
Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (MA)
- Duration: 2 years
- Description: Aimed at refining writing skills, this program delves deeper into literary forms and advanced writing techniques.
Doctorate Degree in Creative Writing (PhD)
- Duration: 3 years
- Description: Focused on original research and advanced creative practice, this program is designed for those seeking to contribute significantly to the field of creative writing.

Admission Requirements
Prospective applicants must meet the following criteria:
- For PGD and MA Programs:
- A Bachelor’s degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division in relevant fields such as English, Literature, Theatre Arts, Linguistics, Journalism, Mass Communication, History, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Education, or related disciplines.
- Candidates with degrees in other fields may be considered if they demonstrate experience in creative writing.
- For PhD Program:
- A Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum weighted average score of 60% (4 points) or a letter grade “B” average performance.
- Candidates from other universities may need to complete additional coursework if their previous studies do not align with UNIABUJA’s requirements.
Additionally, all applicants must have obtained at least five (5) credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings of WASC, NECO, GCE (Ordinary Level), or their equivalents.
Application Process

- Visit the UNIABUJA Portal:
- Access the application portal at https://portal.uniabuja.edu.ng.
- Create an Account:
- Provide your surname, first name, other names, email, and phone number to register.
- Generate Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR):
- On the payment preview page, click on “Generate RRR” to initiate the payment process.
- Make Payment:
- Pay a non-refundable application fee of ₦20,500.00 via the Remita platform using a MasterCard or Visa card.
- Complete the Application:
- After successful payment, log in with the generated application number and your surname as the password to fill out the application form.
- Upload Required Documents:
- Submit all necessary documents, including academic transcripts, O’Level results, NYSC discharge certificate (for Nigerian applicants), birth certificate or age declaration, and a passport photograph.
- Submit the Application:
- Review all information provided and submit your application. Print the application slip for future reference.
Applicants are advised to apply early to avoid last-minute issues and ensure all required documents are in order.
