FG Debunks Rumors: JAMB Still in Charge of University Admissions

The Federal Ministry of Education has noticed a false report spreading in some newspapers and online, claiming that the Ministry has said the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer needed for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tuuji Alausa CON, has made it clear that this report is completely untrue and did not come from the Ministry. At no time did the Ministry release or approve any statement saying that JAMB is no longer required for admission.

For clarity, JAMB is still the official and legally recognized body responsible for conducting entrance exams and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The existing admission process through JAMB is still in full effect, and the public should ignore any claims suggesting otherwise.

The Ministry strongly distances itself from this false publication and advises students, parents, and institutions to rely only on official communication channels from the Ministry and JAMB for accurate information. Dr. Alausa also reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued partnership with JAMB and other education agencies to maintain fairness, transparency, and integrity in the admission process.

The Ministry warns media outlets, bloggers, and online platforms to always confirm information from official sources before publishing, so as not to mislead the public or create confusion in the education sector.

To be clear, there has been no change in JAMB’s role. It remains a key and mandatory part of Nigeria’s higher education admission system. Any report claiming otherwise is false and should be ignored.

The public is encouraged to visit the official websites and verified social media pages of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for genuine updates on education matters.
