The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is now accepting applications from qualified candidates for admission into its postgraduate programs for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This guide provides details about the available programs, admission requirements, program duration, and how to apply.
General Admission Requirements
O’Level Requirements
- All applicants must have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
- However, candidates who obtained their O’Level certificates before 2012 and do not have a credit in Mathematics may still apply for programs in:
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Social Sciences (except the Department of Economics)
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programs
- Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with Second Class Honors or Third Class.
- HND holders should have a minimum of Upper Credit.
- For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC), applicants with a Third Class degree are not eligible.
Master’s Degree Programs
- Candidates must have at least a Second Class Lower Division degree in a relevant course from UNIPORT or any recognized university.
- For the Master’s in Education, candidates with degrees in other fields must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with Upper Credit.
- MBA applicants should have a good background in quantitative subjects.
- Holders of a PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 or above to qualify for a Master’s program.
Ph.D. Programs
- Applicants must have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or its equivalent.
- Admission is based on interview performance, and candidates must also pass coursework and a qualifying examination.
MD/MS Programs
- Candidates must be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) from UNIPORT for at least five years, or be confirmed academic staff of the university.
- They must also hold a recognized fellowship qualification or an M.Sc. degree in a related area.
Duration of Programs
- PGDE: Full-time (12–24 months); Sandwich (two 8-week long vacations).
- MBA: Full-time (24–36 months); Part-time (36–48 months).
- MD/MS: Minimum of 24 months.
- Ph.D.: Full-time (24–60 months); Part-time (36–84 months).
- DBA: Full-time (3–5 years); Part-time (5–7 years).
How to Apply
- Pay a ₦15,000 application fee at any of the following banks:
U&C Microfinance Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, EcoBank, First Bank, or Sterling Bank. - Pay an additional ₦15,000 for the Prospectus to U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd, Choba (Account Number: 1100236739).
- After payment, download the application form from the UNIPORT School of Graduate Studies portal.
Note: Payment for the form does not guarantee admission and is non-refundable.
Required Documents
Attach two copies each of the following:
- Degree or Postgraduate Diploma Certificate
- NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
- O’Level Certificate
- Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
- Marriage Certificate or Change of Name (if applicable)
- Local Government Identification Letter
- Receipts of all payments
Submit completed forms and documents to the Documentation Unit, School of Graduate Studies, UNIPORT.
