MOUAU Regains NUC’s Approval for Programs in the College of Management Sciences

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the re-establishment of five key management science programs at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU). The reinstated programs are:

  • B.Sc. Accounting
  • B.Sc. Marketing
  • B.Sc. Banking and Finance
  • B.Sc. Business Administration
  • B.Sc. Economics

These programs had previously been delisted following a 2016 directive from the Federal Government, which mandated universities to discontinue courses not aligned with their primary academic focus. MOUAU has consistently advocated for their reinstatement, emphasizing the importance of integrating management sciences to equip agricultural stakeholders with essential business and financial competencies.

The NUC’s approval comes after a comprehensive resource verification exercise, confirming that MOUAU possesses the necessary infrastructure and faculty to effectively deliver these programs. The reintroduction is set to commence from the 2024/2025 academic session at the university’s main campus.

The College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) at MOUAU has a rich history, having initially received NUC approval in December 2007 to offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Agribusiness. Over time, the college expanded to include various management science disciplines, reflecting the university’s commitment to providing a holistic education that bridges agriculture and management.

The reinstatement of these programs underscores MOUAU’s dedication to offering comprehensive educational opportunities that blend agricultural studies with essential management skills, preparing graduates to navigate and excel in the dynamic agricultural sector.
