NECO GCE Registration Form Out For 2024

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the registration form for the 2024 NECO General Certificate Examination (GCE). This examination, commonly referred to as the NECO GCE or NECO External, provides candidates, particularly those who missed or need to improve on their school exams, with the opportunity to obtain a General Certificate of Education. Here’s everything you need to know about the registration process, eligibility, fees, and how to prepare effectively for the 2024 NECO GCE.

Overview of the NECO GCE

The NECO GCE is a widely recognized certificate exam in Nigeria and is taken primarily by private candidates who may not have been able to sit for the NECO SSCE (Senior School Certificate Examination) or who wish to improve on their previous grades. This exam typically covers all major subjects including English, Mathematics, Sciences, Arts, and Social Sciences.

NECO GCE 2024 Registration Start Date and Deadline

The registration process for the 2024 NECO GCE has officially commenced. The deadline for the 2024 NECO GCE registration is 6th November, 2024. Late registration starts on 7th November, 2024 and walk-in registration begins on 13th November, 2024. Interested candidates should note that early registration is essential as late registration often attracts additional fees, and missing the deadline could mean waiting until the next examination cycle. Also, candidates are advised to keep checking for updates or visit any NECO office for more information.

How to Register for NECO GCE 2024

The NECO GCE registration process has been streamlined for ease, with both online and in-person options available. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

visually impaired: Visually impaired candidates are to register like everyone. However, they are to indicate the nature of their disability when making entry of their bio-data in the offline application during registration

Step 1: Visit the NECO official website http://www.neco.gov.ng.

Step 2: Create an account if you are a new user using your email or phone number. Or log in if you already have one.

Step 3: Click on the “Register for NECO GCE” option. Follow the prompts to complete the registration process, filling in your details accurately.

Step 4: Select the subjects you wish to sit for. Be mindful of the number of subjects you register for, as this could affect your overall registration fees.

Step 5: Proceed to make payment into the NECO TSA using any of the secure payment options available on the site. You can pay via USSD, Wallet, credit/debit card, or direct bank payment.

Step 6: Print out your registration slip. This document contains important details about your examination schedule, including the venue and examination dates. Keep this slip in a safe place as it will be required for entry into the exam hall.

NOTE: Candidates or cybercafé operators should carefully follow the NECO link on http://www.neco.gov.ng for instructions on registration procedure before embarking on the registration exercise.

  • BIOMETRIC FINGERPRINTS WILL BE CAPTURED DURING THE OFFLINE REGISTRATION OF EACH CANDIDATE.
  •  WALK IN CANDIDATES can now register Six (6) hours to the Subject they intend to write.
  •  EXAMINATION CENTRE CANNOT BE EDITED after upload.
  • The use of reputable cyber cafes is highly recommended as the Council will not be liable for registration errors committed by candidates. Candidates should ensure that they cross-check all entries made by cyber cafes on their behalf, in the offline application before allowing the data to be uploaded online. Note: there is only one chance for correction once the candidate’s data is uploaded online.
  • Candidates are entitled to ONE-TIME CORRECTION with a validity period of TWO WEEKS after upload.
  • Note that:
  • a. complete change of name will not be entertained.
  • ONLY ONE out of these two: NAME (either Surname, First name or middle name) OR PASSPORT can be corrected in addition to other registration data.
  • Candidates should note that the photograph uploaded during the registration will be embossed on their Certificates.

Eligibility Criteria

To register for the NECO GCE, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 16 years old by the time of the examination.
  • Identification: A valid form of identification, such as a National ID, Voter’s card, or Passport, is required for verification during registration.
  • Passport size photograph is required for the registration. The candidate’s passport size photograph should NOT be more than SIX MONTHS old and must have white background. System Camera can also be used to snap the passport size photograph at the point of registration as the case may be.

NECO GCE 2024 Registration Fees And Other Materials

The NECO GCE registration fees for 2024 cover all subjects a candidate wishes to sit for. The Registration Fee is Seventeen Thousand Eight Hundred Naira (N17,800.00) only Four-figure Table is Five Hundred Naira (N500.00) only per copy. Waterproof Certificate Jacket Folder is Two Thousand Naira (2,000) only per candidate. Note that Stamp Duty, Service and Remita charges apply.

ATTESTATION/PHOTO CARDS

On completion of the registration process, each candidate must obtain the following from the cybercafé

  • Timetable for the examination; and
  • At least One (1) clear copy of the NECO Photo card, which would be used to admit the candidate into the Examination Hall. (Candidates should note that Passport size photographs on the Photo cards that are not clear will NOT be accepted in the Examination Hall).

→ The Referee’s Attestation section of the Photo card should be SIGNED AND STAMPED by any of the following:

  1. The Principal of a recognized Secondary School.
  2. An Ordained Clergyman or a Chief Imam.
  3. A Commissioned Officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces or the Police not below the rank of Captain or its equivalent.
  4. A Senior Civil Servant not below GL. 14.
  5. A Legal Practitioner of not less than Ten years’ experience.

→ CANDIDATES ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THEIR ATTESTATION/PHOTO CARDS AT NECO STATE OFFICE FOR STAMPING.

Examination Centers/ Timetable

The Examination centers for each State have been grouped into Neighborhoods. Once registered, candidates will be able to access their individual exam schedules on the NECO website. Exam dates, times, and venues will be specified on the registration slip, so ensure that you check and confirm these details well ahead of time. Candidates should select a neighborhood within the State where they intend to sit for the Examination and they will automatically be assigned a center within the selected neighborhood after uploading their registration data online.

Important Points to Note

  • Candidates should study the Rules & Regulations as well as the Syllabus before the Examination.
  • The Registration fee, once paid, is non-refundable.
  • Smoking, bringing into the Examination Hall Electronic Communication Gadgets (Programmable Calculators, Mobile Phones, iPad, Tablets, Smart Wrist Watches/Glasses/Pens Etc) is strictly prohibited.
  • Candidates should dress in mufti and no one will be allowed entry into the examination hall with arms
  • Multiple registration is not allowed. Candidates who register more than once will have their entire results cancelled.
  • Candidates would be informed about the viability of their centers at least a day before the date of the Examination.
  • Please note that No candidate shall be allowed into the Examination Hall after the commencement of Examination.
  • Double-check Details: Ensure that all personal information entered during registration is accurate, as errors could cause delays in processing your results.
