The University of Sussex Scholarship offers a fully funded PhD Studentship in Engineering. You will work with Prof. Peter Fussey on a project that looks for new energy sources to take the place of fossil fuels. These energy sources will be sustainable, not harm the climate, and can be used safely to release energy.
The project has two main parts:
- Creating structures and checking their properties using graph theory and quick computer chemistry methods. This work will be done on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA’s) using HDL coder in Simulink/Matlab where possible.
- The first part will produce structures and properties that can be used with machine learning to guess new systems. These will then be looked at more closely using advanced quantum chemistry methods.
Benefits
The scholarship offers:
- A tax-free stipend of £20,780 per year.
- Waived fees (for UK, EU, or International students).
- A one-time Research and Training Support Grant of £2,000.
