The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducts the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) annually for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. To ensure a smooth and stress-free examination experience, it is essential for candidates to come prepared with the necessary items allowed in the exam hall.
Mandatory Items to Take to the JAMB Exam Hall
The following are the only items candidates are officially permitted to bring into the JAMB examination hall:
1. JAMB Examination Slip
- This slip serves as proof of registration and contains essential details such as the candidate’s exam date, time, and center.
- Candidates must print their examination slip from the JAMB portal before the exam date.
2. Original and Photocopy of JAMB Registration Slip
- This document is crucial as it confirms the candidate’s eligibility to sit for the exam.
- It is advisable to have both the original and a photocopy to avoid issues at the exam center.
3. A Valid Means of Identification
- Candidates must bring a valid identification document, such as the National Identification Number (NIN) slip, or an officially recognized school ID card.
- JAMB has made the NIN mandatory for registration, so carrying it for verification is recommended.
4. A Face Mask
- Due to health regulations, especially following past pandemic measures, candidates may be required to wear a face mask before entering the exam hall.
- This requirement is subject to JAMB’s guidelines at the time of the exam.
5. HB Pencil and Eraser (if applicable)
- Though the JAMB exam is computer-based, candidates may need an HB pencil and eraser for rough work on provided sheets.
6. Personal Hand Sanitizer (Optional)
- While not mandatory, carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer is advisable for hygiene purposes.
Items Prohibited in the JAMB Exam Hall
To maintain the integrity of the UTME, JAMB has a strict policy prohibiting the following items in the exam hall:
- Electronic Devices (e.g., mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, tablets, or any communication gadgets)
- Handbags, Purses, and Wallets
- Stationery Items (such as pens, notebooks, or textbooks – JAMB provides rough sheets for calculations)
- Wristwatches (both digital and analog)
- Spectacles with Smart Technology
- Food, Drinks, or Water Bottles
- Jewelry or Metal Accessories
- Writing Materials Not Approved by JAMB
- Flash Drives or Storage Devices
- Face Caps, Hoodies, or Any Unnecessary Clothing Accessories
Candidates found with any prohibited item may be disqualified or have their results canceled. Therefore, it is important to adhere strictly to JAMB’s guidelines.
Important Exam Day Tips
- Arrive at the exam center at least an hour before the scheduled time to complete necessary screening procedures.
- Double-check and ensure you have all required documents before leaving for the exam.
- Follow the instructions of the exam officials and maintain discipline throughout the process.
- Stay calm, focused, and avoid any form of malpractice to prevent disqualification.
- Read and understand all questions carefully before answering.
Being well-prepared and organized will help candidates have a smooth and successful JAMB examination experience. By following these guidelines, students can avoid unnecessary stress and focus entirely on excelling in their exams.
