The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has released the date for the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The application period will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to NELFUND, the goal of this initiative is to make the loan process smooth, fair, and accessible to all qualified students in accredited tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The agency thanked schools nationwide for their cooperation and urged them to keep uploading verified records of both new and returning students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal. This verification step is very important, as students cannot apply or receive loans without it.

- Portal Closing Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026
- Eligible Students: Newly admitted and returning students in accredited tertiary institutions
- Student Identification: Fresh students can apply using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number if they don’t yet have a Matric Number
- Institutional Flexibility: Schools are encouraged to be patient with registration and fee deadlines for students waiting for loan disbursement
- Special Notice: Institutions that have not started their 2025/2026 session should notify NELFUND by sending their approved academic calendar for better scheduling
NELFUND also urged institutions to allow temporary registration for students awaiting loan approval so that no student misses classes because of financial challenges.
