African Oxford Initiative AfOx Visiting Fellowship Program 2025

The Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) is now accepting applications for its 2025/2026 Visiting Fellowship Program, a prestigious opportunity for African-based researchers and academics to engage in collaborative research at the University of Oxford. This fully funded fellowship aims to foster international research partnerships and enhance the academic experiences of African scholars.

🌍 About the AfOx Visiting Fellowship Program

The AfOx Visiting Fellowship Program is designed to provide exceptional African researchers with the opportunity to build international networks and focus on a project of their choice in collaboration with Oxford-based scholars. Fellows will be affiliated with the University of Oxford for 12 months, including ten months of virtual engagement and a two-month in-person visit to Oxford between May and June (Trinity term).

📅 Program Timeline

  • Virtual Engagement: October 2025 – July 2026
    • Remote access to Oxford’s resources, including library services and research leadership support.
  • In-Person Residency: May – June 2026 (Trinity Term)
    • Two-month residency at Oxford, with affiliation to a department and college.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of any African country or have indefinite leave to remain in an African country.
  • Hold a position at an African university or research institution.
  • Be legal residents in the country where their institution is based.
  • Have an Oxford-based researcher as a collaborator on their application.

AfOx strongly encourages applications from female and underrepresented researchers.

  • In-Person Residency:
    • Accommodation in Oxford.
    • Temporary University card for access to facilities.
    • Membership to the host college’s Senior Common Room.
    • Return economy flight ticket, airport transfer, visa fee.
    • Maintenance allowance for incidental expenses during the residency (up to £250 per week).

  • Application Requirements:
    • Completed application form.
    • Detailed research proposal.
    • Letter of support from an Oxford-based collaborator.
