The Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences has announced the release of its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing admission forms for the 2024/2025 academic session. This announcement invites qualified candidates to apply for admission into the ND and HND programs offered by the institution. The college is known for its focus on high-quality nursing education, producing well-trained, competent nurses who contribute significantly to the healthcare sector.
Overview of the ND and HND Nursing Programs
The ND and HND Nursing programs at the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences are designed to provide students with comprehensive nursing education and clinical training. The programs aim to equip students with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical standards needed to excel in the nursing profession.
- ND Nursing Program: This program runs for two years and is intended for candidates who wish to pursue a career in nursing at the foundational level. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a National Diploma (ND) in Nursing, which qualifies them to proceed to the HND program or work as a Registered Nurse (RN) after passing the necessary licensure exams.
- HND Nursing Program: The HND Nursing program is a two-year advanced program designed for those who have completed the ND in Nursing and wish to gain more specialized training. Upon completion, graduates will be awarded a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nursing and will be eligible for higher-level roles in clinical practice, nursing administration, or further studies.
Admission Requirements
ND Nursing Program
To be eligible for the ND Nursing program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) O’ Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings from recognized examination bodies such as WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age by the time of admission.
- Applicants must have sat for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and chosen Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences as their first choice of institution. They must also meet the institution’s minimum cut-off mark, as set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
HND Nursing Program
For admission into the HND Nursing program, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must have completed the ND in Nursing and obtained a minimum of a lower credit pass.
- Applicants must be Registered Nurses (RNs) with a valid practicing license issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Just like in the ND program, candidates must possess five (5) O’ Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
- Candidates with relevant work experience in a clinical setting may have an added advantage.
Application Procedure
Interested candidates should note that registration will only take place at the College main campus – Ikot Ekpene. The following would be required during registration:
- Three recent colored passport photographs
- Certificate of Local Government of Origin
- Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
- Change of name (if applicable)
- Original and two photocopies of each of the following:
- Educational Certificates – FSLC, WASSCE, GCE, NECO, OR NABTEB

Important Dates
Application Start Date: The sales of ND/HND forms are expected to commence from 11th September, 2024.
Application Deadline: The closing date for applications is 4th October, 2024. Candidates are advised to apply as early as possible to avoid missing the deadline.
Entrance Examination Date: Saturday, 12th October, 2024.

- The registration exercise is for all qualified candidates, irrespective of their participation in the 2024 UTME.
