BUK Appoints 7th Substantive Registrar

The 15th Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano, appointed Haruna Aliyu as the 7th substantive Registrar of the University on Thursday, 22nd August, 2024. Haruna Aliyu succeeded Malam Jamilu Salim, who passed away on 26th April, 2023.

Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Chairman of the Governing Council, presented the letter of appointment to Haruna Aliyu at the Council Chamber and conveyed his heartfelt congratulations. Dr. Nasiru also charged Haruna Aliyu to demonstrate a high sense of professionalism and administrative competence as he assumes his new role.

The letter says: “The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano in the exercise of powers conferred on it by Section 4 of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) Amendment Act 2003, at its meeting held on Thursday, 22 August, 2024, considered the submission from the Selection Board and hereby approved your appointment as the Registrar of Bayero University, Kano for a period of Five (5) years with effect from Thursday, 22 August, 2024.”

Haruna Aliyu was the Registrar at Skyline University, Kano, from April 2021 to May 2023.

During his time at Skyline University, Aliyu played a pivotal role in leading the University to Nigeria Team for the accreditation of 11 programs. He also spearheaded the University Team for participation in the 2021 Nigerian Universities Ranking. Skyline University Nigeria was ranked 16th out of 113 Nigerian Universities and 8th out of 47 Private Universities participating in the NUC ranking system of Nigerian Universities.

His achievements also include successfully facilitating the review of the Curriculum in line with the BMAS, establishing the process of Admission through CAPS in accordance with JAMB policy, updating the curriculum as per the BMAS provisions, and leading the University Team for the NUC resource verification exercise.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Aliyu was honored as the 2023 Skyline University’s Man of the Year. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Deputy Registrar in the Vice Chancellor’s Office.

Following the passing of Malam Jamilu Salim, Hajiya Amina Umar Abdullahi was appointed to serve in the acting capacity at Bayero University, a position she has held since 5th May 2023.
