Corps Members Will Soon Enjoy Increased Allowance-DG

The members of the Corps have been assured that their monthly allowances will also be increased as soon as civil servants begin to receive the new Minimum Wages set by the Federal Government. In his address to Corps members at Kebbi State Orientation Camp, Dakingari and Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko today, the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed gave this assurance.

He said they cannot underestimate their selfless and enormous contribution to the country’s socio-economic development. General Ahmed also called on them to use the opportunity of the year of service to develop themselves and plan for greater heights in the future. In addition, he encouraged the Corps members to take advantage of the National Youth Service’s skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development program in order to acquire skills that would make them self reliant.

“At least learn a skill while in camp and after the Orientation Course, you continue with the post-camp training.

Try to acquire a skill that would enable you to create jobs and employ others instead of searching for jobs. We have many Ex-Corps Members across the country who are doing well in their different vocations today”, the DG said.

He added that NYSC Management has partnered many reliable organizations like the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry, Unity Bank Access Bank, NNPC Foundation among others, that have been assisting in giving loans and grants to Corps Members. General Ahmed said that the scheme would not put any corps member in a place where their safety could be jeopardized, while urging them to remain alert.

While presenting her Camp situation report to the Director General, Kebbi State Coordinator, Mrs Aghata Banki Okolo said a total of 1,195 Corps Members have been registered, comprising of 1,077 for Kebbi and 118 that were dislodged from Zamfara State. “They’re responding positively to all the activities and instructions of the camp.” We’ve also got a total of 240 camp officials who use emotional intelligence to perform their duties,” she said.

In addition, the Sokoto State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Alhaji Yakubu Yaro Usman has told General Ahmed that corps members have shown a great sense of discipline and are adjusting well to camp life in accordance with Camp Regulations. According to him, in Sokoto State, the Corps had a population of 1,488 members, of which 682 males and 606 females, of which 134 males and 66 females were withdrawn from Zamfara State.
