The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the timetable for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly referred to as the Junior WAEC. This examination is pivotal for students in their final year of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3), serving as a gateway to Senior Secondary School education in Nigeria.

Examination Schedule

According to the released timetable, the 2025 NECO BECE is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 12, 2025, and conclude on Friday, May 23, 2025. The examination will span two weeks, encompassing a range of subjects essential for assessing students’ readiness for senior secondary education.

The examination will cover various subjects, including:

  • Mathematics
  • English Studies
  • Basic Science and Technology
  • National Values Education
  • Cultural and Creative Arts
  • Pre-Vocational Studies
  • Business Studies

  • Arabic Language
  • Nigerian Languages (e.g., Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba)

Each subject is allocated specific dates and times, with some subjects featuring multiple papers, such as Objective and Essay components.

Key Notes for Candidates and Schools

  • Adherence to Timetable: Candidates and schools are advised to strictly follow the official timetable. In cases where discrepancies exist between the timetable and question paper instructions, the latter should be prioritized.
  • Practical Examinations: Subjects requiring practical assessments, such as Basic Science and Technology or Business Studies, should be organized in batches if candidate numbers are large. Practical sessions should conclude by 5:00 PM daily.
  • Special Provisions: Visually impaired candidates are to use NECO-supplied OBR Customized Braille Sheets. Additionally, both blind and albino candidates are entitled to an extra 30 minutes for each subject.
