Bayero University (BUK) Issues New Amnesty Guidelines for Affected Postgraduate Students

Postgraduate students of Bayero University, Kano who were unable to complete their programs within the approved duration are being given a new and important instruction. This notice is meant specifically for affected PhD and Academic Master’s students whose studies have exceeded the officially approved time.

The university management has directed such students to formally apply for amnesty in order to regularize their academic status. To do this, each affected student is required to write a clear and properly worded letter requesting amnesty. The letter must be addressed to the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies.

However, students should note that the letter must not be sent directly to the College. Instead, the correct procedure is to first submit the letter to the Head of Department (HOD). The HOD will review it and then forward it to the College of Postgraduate Studies. Students are strongly advised to follow this channel as stated, because failing to do so or bypassing the department may cause unnecessary delays or complications in processing the request.

It is also important to clarify that an earlier message which instructed students to write directly to the Vice-Chancellor is no longer valid. That instruction has been withdrawn and replaced with this new directive. Students who are still following the old message should stop immediately and comply with the updated process to avoid confusion.

All affected students are expected to act on this notice as soon as possible. Delaying action may affect their academic standing. Students who previously shared the old message in class groups or WhatsApp forums are encouraged to help circulate this updated information so that everyone is properly informed. Sharing the correct details will help reduce stress, prevent mistakes, and ensure that all concerned students are on the same page.
