JAMB Commences Accreditation of CBT Centers for the 2024/2025 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially begun the accreditation of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers nationwide in preparation for the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). In line with what the JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, this accreditation exercise is part of JAMB’s efforts to ensure a seamless and credible examination process for all candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Purpose of the Accreditation Exercise

The accreditation of CBT centers is crucial to maintaining high standards and reliability during the UTME. This exercise is designed to:

  • Identify centers with adequate infrastructure and technical capacity to host the UTME.
  • Prevent technical glitches and ensure a conducive environment for candidates.
  • Eliminate unapproved centers that may compromise the integrity of the examination.

JAMB is committed to using only centers that meet its stringent requirements, ensuring fairness and transparency in the examination process.

Criteria for CBT Center Accreditation

CBT centers seeking accreditation must meet JAMB’s comprehensive guidelines, as stated below:

  1. Adequate Infrastructure: Centers must have functional computer systems, backup power supply, and spacious, well-ventilated examination halls.
  2. Technical Capacity: Centers must have internet connectivity, CCTV surveillance systems, and qualified personnel to manage technical challenges.
  3. Accessibility: Centers should be accessible to candidates, particularly in urban and rural areas, to ensure equitable participation.
  4. Compliance with JAMB Standards: All equipment and facilities must align with JAMB’s technical and operational specifications.

After reviewing the requirements, these centers should notify the Board in writing of their intention to participate in the accreditation exercise. This notification should be addressed to the Registrar of JAMB through the Zonal Director or State Coordinator in their respective states.”

According to the JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the established centers that were successfully accredited and participated in the 2024 UTME without any issues are required to register their interest via the Centre Management System Portal. For new centers, the Zonal and State Offices of JAMB will create accounts for them on the CMS Portal to facilitate their registration.

Phases of the Accreditation Process

The accreditation exercise will be carried out in phases, beginning with an on-site inspection by JAMB officials. This is followed by a comprehensive review of the center’s facilities, infrastructure, and technical readiness. The physical accreditation exercise is scheduled to begin in December 2024, with only qualifying centers receiving notifications regarding the dates.

All centers must conduct an Autobot/Autotest on a date that will be communicated to them as part of their preparation for the physical accreditation visit by the Board’s team. According to JAMB, the Autobot/Autotest is mandatory, and only centers that successfully complete the test and meet the Board’s criteria will proceed to the next stage of accreditation. Centers that meet the criteria will be certified as accredited CBT centers for the 2024/2025 UTME.

Implications for Candidates

Candidates are advised to register and take their exams at officially accredited CBT centers. This ensures that they avoid technical issues and participate in a credible examination process.

Warnings Against Unaccredited Centers

JAMB has reiterated its warning to candidates and stakeholders to avoid patronizing unaccredited centers. Using such centers can lead to disqualification and other complications during the examination process.

Commitment to Excellence

JAMB continues to prioritize excellence in the conduct of the UTME. The accreditation exercise underscores the board’s dedication to providing a secure, efficient, and credible examination process for all candidates.
