The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Joint Venture Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme 2024 is a collaborative effort between the SPDC, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporati0n (NNPC), and other joint venture partners which date back to the 1950s and has been instrumental in promoting academic excellence and providing financial assistance to deserving Nigerian students.
Objectives
- To reduce the financial burden on students and their families enabling students to focus on their studies and achieve academic excellence by covering tuition fees, books and other educational expenses which is a significant relief to many families in Nigeria.
- To encourage healthy competition among students and to reward those who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and potential.
- To provide recipients with opportunities for personal and professional development. This includes mentorship programs, internships, and networking opportunities with industry professionals.
Application
One must be part of any of the two categories below in other to be able to apply the scholarship
1. National Merit Award (NM): Open to all Nigerians.
2. Areas Of Operation Merit Award (OM): For Nigerians who are indigenes of SPDC’s operational area in Bayelsa, Imo, Delta, Abia and Rivers State.
Eligibility
Here is the general eligibility criterial for applicants:
- Applicants must be Nigerian citizens.
- Applicants must have a personal valid email account for consistent communication.
- Applicants must be in their first year of full-time study in a Nigerian university accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
- Applicants must not be a beneficiary of other scholarship from an entity operating in the Oil and Gas Industry, National or International.
Applicants for Operational Area Awards are required to provide scanned copies of letters of identification, which must be duly stamped and signed by:
i. The Paramount Ruler of the Community.
ii. The Chairman of the Community Development.
iii. The Chairman of the Executive Council (CEC) or
iv. The letters should be addressed to: The Manager, Social Performance, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”
P/S:
- Each document must not exceed 200KB and the image format must be in JPEG.
- SPDC and its Joint Venture partners does not demand payment from applicants. The application is free of charge.
- Applications must be processed only through the Shell Nigeria website.
- Only successful candidates at each selection stage will be contacted.
- SPDC and its Joint Venture partners does not assign Representatives/Agents to assist applicants process applications.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the proctored computer-based test.

- Application opens on the 10th of June 2024.
- Application closes on the 15th of July 2024.
