ABSU Inter-University and Inter-Departmental Transfers forms, 2024/2025

Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, has announced the availability of Inter-University and Inter-Departmental Transfer forms for the 2024/2025 academic session. This initiative allows students to transfer either from other universities into ABSU or between departments within the university.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Duration of Study: Applicants must have completed at least one academic session in their current university or department.
  2. Academic Standing: A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 3.50 and the transcript must be certified by the Registrar.
  3. Accreditation: For inter-university transfers, the originating institution must be recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education.
  4. Entry Requirements: Applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements for the desired program at ABSU.
  5. Disciplinary Record: Applicants should not have any disciplinary records or ongoing investigations at their current institution.
  6. Where the reason for applying for a change of programme is inability to cope with course-related demands in the present department, transfer to a less demanding programme may be approved with much lower CGPA;
  7. The student should apply to the Vice-Chancellor, through his/her current Dean and Head of Department;
  8. Change of degree programs should be exercised only once during a student’s undergraduate program.

Application Procedure

Interested students should follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the Application Form: Visit the ABSU Admissions Office or the official university website to acquire the transfer application form.
  2. Complete the Form: Fill in all required sections accurately, providing personal details, academic history, and reasons for the transfer.
  3. Attach Supporting Documents: Include the following with your application:
    • Academic transcripts from the current institution.
    • Copies of O’Level results (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB).
    • Evidence of meeting the entry requirements for the desired program.
    • A letter of recommendation or release from the current institution (for inter-university transfers).
  4. Submit the Application: Submit the completed form and all attachments to the ABSU Admissions Office within the stipulated timeframe.
  5. Pay the Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee is required. The exact amount and payment method should be confirmed with the Admissions Office.

Important Dates

  • Application Period: The sales of transfer forms commence on March 10, 2025. Applicants are advised to submit their applications as early as possible to ensure consideration.
  • Deadline: The closing date for submission is typically six weeks from the start date, ending on April 21, 2025. Late submissions may not be entertained.

Considerations

  • Program Availability: Transfers are subject to the availability of space in the desired program.
  • Academic Compatibility: The curriculum of the current program should align closely with that of the desired program to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Quota Limitations: The number of students admitted via transfer may be limited to a certain percentage of the program’s capacity.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to review all guidelines thoroughly and ensure compliance with all requirements to enhance the likelihood of a successful transfer.
