The University of Exeter offers Master’s scholarships to teachers and education professionals who have good experience and can make a strong impact on English language teaching in their home countries.
Through the Hornby Trust Scholarship, up to ten (10) fully funded awards are available for students who qualify for the MEd TESOL program starting in September 2026. These scholarships are meant for talented applicants who live and work in low- and middle-income countries listed under the OECD DAC list.
Benefits
If you are selected, you will receive:
- Full tuition fees
- A living allowance of at least £15,500 (paid monthly; final amount confirmed after selection)
- Return international travel costs
Eligibility
To qualify, you must:
- Live and work in a low- or middle-income country on the OECD DAC list
- Have at least three years of full-time TESOL teaching or related experience after your first degree
- Already have an undergraduate degree with good grades (UK upper second class or higher), or a relevant postgraduate degree
- First apply normally to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL program and get an Exeter student number
(You cannot apply for the Hornby Scholarship until you receive this number.)

- First complete the University of Exeter application form for the MEd TESOL program.
- Wait to receive your Exeter student number.
- Use this student number to fill out the Hornby Scholarship application form.
(You cannot submit the scholarship form without it.)
- Shortlisted applicants will be notified by 6 March 2026.
- Interviews will take place from 16–25 March 2026.
- Final results will be shared by 2 April 2026.
