Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Releases 2025/2026 Postgraduate Academic Calendar

The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has officially published the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session. The calendar outlines key activities for postgraduate students, including registration periods, lectures, examinations, marking, meetings, breaks, and vacation timelines.

First Semester (2025/2026)

Registration

  • First semester registration will run from 5 January to 31 January 2026, covering a period of three weeks.

Lectures.

  • Lectures are scheduled to hold from 12 January to 31 March 2026, lasting 11 weeks

Examinations and Marking

  • First semester examinations will take place between 8 April and 6 May 2026 (4 weeks).
  • Marking of examination scripts will follow from 29 April to 26 May 2026, also lasting four weeks.

Meetings and Approvals

  • Departmental and Faculty PG Committee meetings: 1–2 June 2026
  • PG Board meeting: 2–3 June 2026
  • Senate Business Committee meeting: 5–9 June 2026
  • Senate Examinations meeting: 15 June 2026

Inter-Semester Break

  • All postgraduate students will observe an inter-semester break from 7 May to 22 June 2026, lasting six weeks.
Second Semester (2025/2026)

Resumption and Registration

  • Resumption and registration for all students will take place from 22 June to 26 June 2026 (five days)

Lectures

  • Second semester lectures are scheduled from 23 June to 11 September 2026, spanning 12 weeks.

Examinations and Markings

  • Second semester examinations will hold from 14 September to 12 October 2026 (four weeks).
  • Marking will be conducted from 5 October to 2 November 2026, also for four weeks.

Meetings and Approvals

  • Departmental and Faculty PG Committee meetings: 3–6 November 2026
  • PG Board meeting: 9–10 November 2026
  • Senate Business Committee meetings: 11–12 November 2026
  • Senate Examinations meeting: 16 November 2026
Vacation and Staff Leave
  • Students’ Vacation
    All postgraduate students will go on vacation from 13 October to 29 December 2026, a period of 11 weeks.
  • Academic Staff Annual Leave
    Academic staff annual leave is scheduled from 17 November to 29 December 2026, lasting six weeks.
Next Academic Session

The 2026/2027 academic session will commence on 30 December 2026. The calendar also indicates that PG-ICT short training programs will be conducted throughout the academic session.
