JAMB Confirms No Increase in 2026 UTME and Direct Entry Fees

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it will not raise the application fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE). According to the Board, the cost for the 2026 exercise will stay almost the same as last year. This assurance is meant to calm parents, guardians, and candidates who are worried about rising living costs and school expenses.

No fee increase for years

JAMB explained that it has not increased UTME or Direct Entry application fees for the past nine years. In fact, it noted that registration fees were even reduced during this period under the current leadership. This long-standing position is part of the Board’s effort to make education more affordable.

When fees could change

The Board added that a fee increase is not expected for 2026. However, it mentioned one exception: fees may only change if it becomes absolutely necessary to protect the quality and credibility of the examination process.

Backed by government directive

JAMB said the decision follows an instruction from President Bola Tinubu, passed through the Minister of Education. The directive encourages government agencies to show understanding toward citizens and consider the current economic situation facing Nigerian families.

Advice to candidates and parents

JAMB advised families to plan early and complete registration as soon as it opens. It also stressed that there will be no extension of the registration deadline.

In simple terms, candidates preparing for the 2026 UTME or Direct Entry should get ready on time and register within the approved period.
