Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Gets NUC Approval to Start New Degree Programs for 2025/2026 Session

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce new degree programs. These courses are in the areas of basic medical, health, and physical sciences, and they will begin in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The announcement was made through a press release signed by the university’s Registrar. AKSU confirmed that six new degree programs have been approved. The courses were designed to meet current demands in health and science-related fields.

The newly approved programs are:

  • Nursing Science
  • Public Health
  • Environmental Health Science
  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Health Technology
  • Science Laboratory Technology

The university stated that these programs are well recognized and offer good career opportunities. They also support AKSU’s aim of providing quality education and preparing students for practical, real-life jobs.

For the Science Laboratory Technology program, students can choose to specialize in one of eight areas based on their interest. These areas include:

  • Biology Technology, which deals with plants, animals, and living systems
  • Biochemistry Technology, which focuses on chemical activities in living things, food, and medicine
  • Chemistry Technology, which involves laboratory testing and chemical analysis
  • Chemical and Petrochemical Technology, which covers chemical processes and oil-related studies
  • Geology and Mining Technology, which focuses on earth materials, minerals, and mining
  • Microbiology and Biotechnology, which studies microorganisms and their use in health and agriculture
  • Physical and Electronics Technology, which deals with applied physics and electronic equipment
  • Physiology and Pharmacology Technology, which focuses on body systems and how drugs work

With this approval, AKSU now offers more study options and better prepares students for careers in science and health fields. Interested candidates can apply for these new programs for the 2025/2026 academic session.
