PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) Opens Postgraduate Admissions for 2025/2026 Session

The School of Postgraduate Studies at PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), Port Harcourt offers full-time postgraduate programs for graduates who want to build strong research skills. The programs are designed to help students learn how to ask good questions, carry out proper research, and work closely with lecturers and other students. Although the training is serious, students receive guidance and support throughout their studies.

Applications are now open for qualified candidates into full-time postgraduate programs for the 2025/2026 academic session. Successful applicants may be admitted into Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs, depending on their qualifications.

Admission Requirements

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
Applicants must:

  • Hold a BMLS degree from a recognised university with at least a Third Class
  • Be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria

Master’s Degree (MSc)
Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least Second Class Lower
  • An unclassified degree with a minimum overall grade of C (50%)
  • A PGD in a related field with a CGPA of 3.00 or above on a 5-point scale
  • A Fellowship of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (for Medical Laboratory Science applicants only)

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in the proposed area of study with a CGPA of at least 3.5 on a 5-point scale
Duration of Programs

PGD

  • Minimum: 2 semesters
  • Maximum: 3 semesters

MSc

  • Minimum: 3 semesters
  • Maximum: 5 semesters

PhD

  • Minimum: 6 semesters
  • Maximum: 9 semesters
How to Apply

All applications are completed online through the official PUMS postgraduate portal: portal.pums.edu.ng/admission-postgraduate.php

Application Steps

  • Fill in all required details and click Proceed.
  • You will be logged in and taken to a dashboard to complete the application.
  • Pay the application fee using the provided account details and upload proof of payment. Applications without payment will not be submitted.
  • After submission, print the application form and transcript request form. Send the transcript request to your former institution.
  • Clearly state any change of name, if applicable.
  • Keep a printed copy of your application for future reference.
  • Applicants can log in anytime using their email and password to complete or check their application status.

Important Notes for Applicants
  • Check your email regularly for updates from the university.
  • Three referees are required. At least two must be academic staff not below the rank of Senior Lecturer.
  • MSc applicants must upload a one-page synopsis of their previous research.
  • PhD applicants must upload a research proposal of not more than five pages.

Application Timeline (2025/2026)
  • Sale of forms: 24 November 2025 – 7 January 2026
  • Application deadline: 11 January 2026
  • Transcript submission deadline: 11 January 2026

Transcripts can be sent as hard copy or soft copy. Soft copies must be sent from an official institutional email to [email protected].

PhD applicants may later be invited for a proposal defense, and the date will be communicated when ready.

All admission offers are provisional, and the School of Postgraduate Studies reserves the right to approve or decline any application.
