The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its Postgraduate Programs for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. Applications are open across the various Schools, Centers, and Institutes of the University.
General Admission Requirements
1. PhD Programs
Candidates seeking admission into any PhD program must:
- Hold a Master’s Degree from FUTMINNA or any other university recognized by the University Senate.
- Possess equivalent qualifications acceptable to the Senate.
- Have a minimum weighted average score of 60%, or a ‘B’ grade, or a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale in their Master’s Degree programme.
2. Master’s Degree Programs
Applicants must possess:
- A minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) from FUTMINNA or any recognized university.
Additional considerations:
- Candidates with a Third Class Honours Degree and at least two (2) years post-graduation experience in relevant fields may be considered.
- Such candidates may be required to pass a qualifying examination administered by the Department in consultation with the Postgraduate School.
- Candidates with HND (Lower Credit) and a Postgraduate Diploma (Lower Credit) in relevant fields with at least one year post-graduation experience may also be considered.
Where a qualifying examination is required, a fee of ₦2,000 will be charged separately from the application fee.
3. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programs
Admission into PGD programmes may be granted to candidates with:
- A Third Class Honours Degree in relevant fields.
- HND (Lower Credit) or OND (Lower Credit) in relevant fields with at least one year post-graduation experience.
Important Admission Notes
- A valid NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter is mandatory for all postgraduate admissions.
- Candidates with a Pass grade at any level (Degree, PGD, HND, OND) are not eligible for admission into PhD, Master’s, or PGD programmes.
- Diploma holders with CGPA below 2.50 are not qualified for Master’s Degree admission.
- Final admission decisions rest with the Postgraduate School Board.
- Candidates with science-based backgrounds are generally given preference.
- All Master’s programmes require both coursework and research components. A thesis must be successfully defended before graduation.
Duration of Programs
PhD Programs
- Full-Time: Minimum of 6 semesters (3 academic sessions); Maximum of 10 semesters (5 academic sessions).
- Part-Time: Minimum of 10 semesters (5 academic sessions); Maximum of 14 semesters (7 academic sessions).
Master’s Degree Programs
- Minimum duration: 3 semesters (Full-Time only)
- Maximum duration: 6 semesters
- No Part-Time option available
- Students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.50 each semester. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal.
Postgraduate Diploma Programs
- Normal duration: 3 semesters (Full-Time)
- Maximum duration: 6 semesters
- Minimum CGPA requirement per semester: 1.50

Method of Application
All applications must be completed online via the University website:

Application forms will be available from Monday, 27th February, 2026, and must be submitted on or before Friday, 20th March, 2026.
Applicants must:
- Provide accurate personal details, including valid email addresses and phone numbers.
- Follow all instructions carefully to avoid disqualification.
- Print completed forms for use during registration (if admitted).
- Upload all certificates in original colored format.
Submission of Transcripts and Documents
All MTech/MEng and PhD applicants must forward official transcripts to:

Additionally:
- PhD candidates must upload a research proposal aligned with their area of interest.
- At least two referees must submit reports online before the deadline.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₦15,000, excluding service charges. Payment must be made online via the Remita platform using Master or Verve cards through the University portal.
Acceptance and Registration Procedures
Successful candidates offered provisional admission must:
- Pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of ₦20,000.
- Undergo screening of original credentials at the Postgraduate School.
- Complete payment of school fees and departmental registration within the stipulated time.
Failure to complete registration within the approved period will result in forfeiture of admission.
Candidates whose academic background is considered inadequate for their chosen specialization may be required to take additional prescribed courses as determined by the School/Department in line with Postgraduate School regulations.
