Key Highlights

  • Highest Score Ever: Okeke Chinedu Christian achieved a remarkable 375/400, the highest score recorded since the 2024 exam.
  • STEM Dominance: Nine of ten top scorers opted for engineering-related fields—Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Aerospace, Petroleum/Gas—and one in Computer Science.
  • Strong Female Representation: Gertrude Olawepo Tunmise from Kwara is the only female candidate among the top ten, scoring 373 with plans to study Computer Science at UNILAG.
Integrity Concerns Surrounding the Top Scorer

JAMB disclosed a review into Okeke Chinedu’s examination status after discovering previous enrollment in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) studying Medicine. Despite his claimed transfer and current UTME registration, there was no record of withdrawal or transfer, prompting JAMB to initiate an investigation for possible dual enrollment or identity issues.

Policy Updates from the Meeting

In the same meeting, JAMB reiterated two key policies:

  1. Minimum University Admission Age: Candidates must be at least 16 years old.
  2. Cut-off Marks for 2025 Admissions:
    • Universities: 150
    • Polytechnics: 100
    • Colleges of Education: 100
    • Colleges of Nursing Sciences: 140

JAMB’s announcement of the 2025 UTME top scorers highlights both academic excellence and a strong regulatory approach. With standout performances from the top candidates and ongoing scrutiny, JAMB continues to define the integrity of tertiary admissions in Nigeria.
