MTN Foundation MUSON Diploma in Music Scholarship

Launched in 2006 through a partnership between the MTN Foundation and the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), this is a fully funded, two‑year diploma aimed at nurturing outstanding young Nigerian musicians. Graduates receive an internationally-recognized diploma, transferable to university programs locally and abroad.

Course Structure & Majors
  • Duration: Full-time, 2 years
  • Majors Offered: Choose from Piano, Organ, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion, Classical Guitar, or Voice.
  • Complementary Training:
    • Voice students must pass Grade 2 piano.
    • Instrumentalists study vocal techniques.
    • Choir participation is mandatory; strings join the orchestra; winds/percussion join the band.

This curriculum is modeled after top conservatoire standards to produce well-rounded musicians ready for university entry.

Admission Requirements

To qualify, applicants need:

  3. Remedial possibility: Those strong in practical skills but lacking theory can enroll after passing remedial classes in Year 1 ).
Selection Process & Timeline
  • Application deadline: August 25, 2025
  • Screening involves:
    • A written theory test (Grade 5 level),
    • Practical audition on chosen instrumentation or voice,
    • Oral interview.
  • Scheduled exams: September 3rd – September 6th, 2024.
