UNILORIN Postgraduate Admission Form 2025/2026

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially announced the commencement of its postgraduate admission process for the 2025/2026 academic session. This comprehensive guide provides prospective applicants with detailed information on available programs, eligibility criteria, application procedures, deadlines, and other essential details.

🎓 Available Postgraduate Programs

UNILORIN offers a diverse range of postgraduate programs across various faculties and departments. The programs are categorized as follows

1. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Program

Eligibility: Holders of M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M., or M.P.H. degrees with a minimum of 60% score or 4.0 CGPA on a 5-point scale in their Master’s programmes.

Duration:

  • Full-Time: 36 to 60 months.
  • Part-Time: 48 to 72 months.

Requirements: Completion of prescribed courses and submission of a thesis.

2. Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) / Ph.D. Programs

  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Master’s degree scoring between 55.00% and 59.99% or a CGPA of 3.50 – 3.99 on a 5-point scale.
  • Duration: 12 to 24 months.
  • Note: Candidates may be eligible for conversion to Ph.D. candidature based on performance.

3. Master’s Degree Programs

  • Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree holders with at least a Second Class Lower Division (2:2) from recognized universities.
  • Duration:
  • Full-Time: 18 to 24 months.
  • Part-Time: 36 to 48 months.
  • Note: All Master’s programs are by coursework and require a dissertation.

4. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programs

  • Eligibility: Candidates with a Third Class (honours) degree or HND holders with a minimum of Lower Credit from recognized institutions.
  • Duration:
  • Full-Time: Minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four semesters.

✅ General Admission Requirements

  • O’Level Requirements: A minimum of five (5) credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings in relevant subjects from recognized examination bodies such as SSCE/WASC, GCE ‘O’ Level, NECO, NABTEB, or TC II.
  • NYSC Certificate: Applicants must possess an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate dated before 30th March 2025.
  • Transcripts: Candidates must ensure that their academic transcripts are sent directly to the Head of Department of their proposed program. The university will not be responsible for misplaced transcripts.
  • International Students: Students from non-English-speaking countries must provide TOEFL or IELTS scores.
  • Students outside Nigeria do not need extra tests.
  • Full-Time Applicants: Must present a letter of release from their employer at registration

💳 Application Fee

  • Nigerian Applicants: ₦25,000.00 (Twenty-five Thousand Naira) only.
  • International Applicants: $200.00 (Two Hundred US Dollars) only

  1. Visit the UNILORIN Postgraduate Portal:

    • Click on “Apply” under Admissions and select “Postgraduate” as the admission form type.
    • Enter your phone number and email address.
  3. Make Payment:
    • Click on the “MAKE PAYMENT NOW” button to make a payment.
    • Payment can be made online using ATM Card/Internet Banking or at any branch of all the Commercial Banks using a pre-payment slip. ​
  4. Complete the Application Form:
    • After payment, return to the online portal and click on the “Register” link to obtain your login credentials.
    • Upload your passport photograph (not more than 600kb) and fill in other relevant information.
    • Preview for corrections, submit, and print a copy of the filled form. ​

  • Application Deadline: Friday, 23rd May 2025.
  • Deadline for Receipt of Supporting Documents: Friday, 6th June 2025.
  • Qualifying Examination: Saturday, 21st June 2025.
