MTN mPulse Spelling Bee Competition 2025 for Young Nigerians

The MTN mPulse Spelling Bee is an annual spelling competition organized by MTN Nigeria, designed to foster English literacy and academic confidence among Nigerian school students aged 9–15 years. Participants compete through online and in-person rounds to showcase their spelling prowess, win scholarship grants, and receive recognition.

Eligibility & Participation Requirements
  • Age & Schooling: Open to Nigerian boys and girls aged 9 to 15, currently enrolled in primary or secondary school.
  • Residency: Must be resident in Nigeria.
  • Tariff Plan: Finalists (top 20) must be on the mPulse tariff plan; non-mPulse users can migrate by dialing *3441#.
  • Registration: Participants must register themselves as students on the official mPulse platform; parents or guardians cannot participate for them.
Competition Structure & Timeline

The 2025 competition consists of progressive stages including practice, online rounds, regional events, and a grand finale.

  1. Practice Stage
    Accessible anytime on mpulse.mtn.ng – take as many practice quizzes as desired.
  2. Round 1 (Entry Round)
    • 10 spelling questions; each to be answered within ~20–25 seconds.
    • Participants take it once in one sitting.
    • Top ~3,000 move to Round 2.
  3. Round 2 (Online Shortlist Round)
    • Shortlisted around 3,000 participants across six geopolitical zones.
    • 20 questions, ~20 seconds per question.
    • Tests knowledge of word origins, definitions, correct spelling.
    • Top 60 (10 per region) advance to regional events.
  4. Regional On-ground Events
    • Held in Ibadan, Enugu, and Abuja.
    • Participants compete locally to secure a top 20 spot.
  5. Grand Finale
    • Hosted live in Lagos, with full streaming on mpulse.mtn.ng.
    • Top 20 finalists engage in knockout rounds until a champion is crowned.

Deadline for registration is October 5, 2025

Prizes & Recognition

MTN awards more than ₦24 million in scholarships, devices, and school support. Major winners also receive unique opportunities.

  • First Place Winner
    • ₦5 million scholarship grant plus a laptop, smartphone, and mPulse goody bag.
    • Title includes “MTN CEO for a Day”, and mPulse Face for the Year.
    • Winner’s school receives an ICT lab (10 laptops) and 10 MTN 5G broadband devices.
    • The winner’s teacher receives ₦500,000 in cash.
  • Second Place
    • ₦2.5 million scholarship, laptop, smartphone, and goody bag.
    • Teacher receives ₦300,000.
  • Third Place
    • ₦1.5 million scholarship, laptop, smartphone, and goody bag.
    • Teacher rewarded with ₦200,000.
  • 4th–10th Finalists
    • ₦500,000 each plus goody bag.
  • 11th–20th Finalists
    • ₦200,000 each plus mPulse goody bag.
  • Regional School Prize
    • ₦1,000,000 award to the school in each region with the highest participation among eligible applicants (min. 100 participants).
How to Prepare
  • Register on the mPulse platform and practice consistently.
  • Take the practice quiz many times—this helps familiarize with format and timing constraints.
  • Ensure stable internet (3G/4G recommended) and quiet environment during quiz.
  • Make sure your mPulse profile is fully updated, and you’re linked with a parent account.

  1. Visit mpulse.mtn.ng and register as a student.
  2. Join the competition via the spelling bee banner.
  3. Use the Practice Quiz to sharpen your spelling, familiarise with timing.
  4. Prepare well and aim to advance through rounds.
  5. If shortlisted in top 20, ensure you’re on the mPulse tariff plan.
