Lagos State University (LASU) Launches Four New Tech Degrees with NUC Approval

Lagos State University (LASU) has been given approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to start four new full-time undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. This means LASU students now have more options to study tech-related courses that fit today’s digital world.

The approval came after NUC experts visited the school to check if LASU has enough qualified lecturers, good classrooms, labs, and the right learning tools. Their report showed that LASU is ready to run these new programs.

Details of the NUC Approval

The approval was confirmed in a letter dated 3rd November 2025, signed by Mr. Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary. The letter allows LASU to run four new full-time undergraduate programs starting from the 2025/2026 academic session. This approval is for full-time only not part-time or online study.

The New Tech Programs at LASU

From the 2025/2026 session, LASU will offer:

  • B.Sc. Cyber Security
  • B.Sc. Software Engineering
  • B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • B.Sc. Data Science

Each course is designed to meet modern tech needs:

  • Cyber Security teaches students how to protect systems and data.
  • Software Engineering focuses on designing and building software.
  • ICT deals with computers, networks, and communication tools.
  • Data Science teaches how to work with data to make better decisions.

These programs prepare students for many job opportunities in Nigeria’s tech industry and beyond.

What This Means for LASU Students

Students now have clearer and more focused tech study paths. Instead of choosing only general computer science, they can select a field that matches their interest whether it’s cyber protection, coding, ICT systems, or data work.

This will help students:

  • Choose courses more easily
  • Gain skills that employers want
  • Prepare for advanced studies in tech fields

Parents and guardians can also feel confident knowing these programs meet national quality standards.

Study Mode and Start Date
  • All four programs are full-time only.
  • They will start in the 2025/2026 academic session.
  • Any other study mode (like part-time or online) will need new approval from NUC.

Students planning to apply to LASU for the 2025/2026 session should look out for these new programs when the school releases admission details.

By adding these new degrees, LASU is showing its commitment to technology-focused learning. The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology now has more options that match today’s needs in cyber safety, software, ICT, and data. These programs will help produce graduates who can work and solve real problems in the digital world both in Lagos State and beyond.

With NUC approval for these four new tech programs, LASU is taking an important step in expanding quality technology education. The university is ready to welcome students who want to build careers in cyber security, software development, data science, and ICT from the 2025/2026 session.
