To make the 2026 UTME registration easy and stress-free, JAMB has told candidates to generate their profile code early and keep it safe for when registration starts. Before doing this, every candidate must have a National Identification Number (NIN). The NIN is compulsory for UTME and Direct Entry registration. If you have not gotten your NIN yet, you should do that as soon as possible.

What is a Profile Code?
A profile code is a unique 10-digit number that serves as the first step in the JAMB registration process. It links candidates’ personal details to their UTME registration and is essential for purchasing the e-PIN required to complete the application.
How to Generate Your Profile Code
Generating a JAMB profile code is simple and can be done via SMS. Follow these steps:
- Prepare Your Details: Ensure you have a valid National Identification Number (NIN) as it is mandatory for this process.
- Send SMS:
- Text your NIN to 55019 or 66019 using a mobile number that has not been previously used for JAMB registration.
- Example: If your NIN is 12345678901, send an SMS with the text NIN 12345678901 to 55019 or 66019.
- Receive Your Profile Code: After sending the SMS, you will receive a response containing your unique 10-digit profile code.
Common problems and what they mean
- Error 550/66019: Your message format is wrong. Use the correct format.
- Number already registered: The phone number has been used before. Use the original SIM or get a new one.
- Unable to verify NIN: Wait for some time and try again later.
Key Points to Note
- Mobile Number Requirement: The phone number used to send the SMS will be linked to your JAMB profile and must be kept active throughout the admission process.
- Cost: Each SMS costs approximately N50. Ensure you have sufficient credit on your mobile line before initiating the process.
- Error Resolution: If you encounter issues while generating your profile code, such as invalid NIN or incorrect details, you can:
- Verify your NIN details at an NIMC enrollment center.
- Contact JAMB support via their official helpline or email.
Why Generate Your Profile Code Early?
- Avoid Last-Minute Rush: Early generation of profile codes prevents delays caused by high traffic closer to the registration deadline.
- Ease of Registration: With your profile code ready, you can proceed to purchase your e-PIN and complete your UTME registration without stress.
- Resolve Issues Promptly: Early attempts allow time to rectify any errors or discrepancies in your details.
When to Use the Profile Code
Once generated, your profile code is used to:
- Purchase your JAMB e-PIN from accredited vendors or online platforms.
- Complete the UTME registration at any accredited JAMB CBT center.
Additional Information for 2026 UTME Applicants
- Registration Date: The official registration window for the 2026 UTME will be announced soon. Candidates are advised to stay updated by visiting JAMB’s official website at www.jamb.gov.ng.
- NIN: The Board also advised the candidates to get their National Identification Number (NIN), a prerequisite for UTME/DE registration.
- Mock Examination: JAMB will also provide details about the optional mock examination for candidates who wish to participate.
- Exam Date: The 2026 UTME is expected to hold in the first quarter of the year. Candidates should prepare accordingly.
- BIOMETRIC: Prospective candidates are also urged to heed the strict warning on the use and application of henna, otherwise called “ L a a l i ” / “ L a l e .” This is to avoid experiencing biometric verification challenges as it had been established that the application of henna on the fingers obstructs the biometric verification process. Furthermore, in an attempt by candidates to clean their fancy henna designs, they used chemicals that damaged the whorls on their fingers, hence making biometric verification and authentication difficult if not impossible.
JAMB also urged candidates to safeguard their ten fingers during both the registration and examination processes, stressing that successful biometric verification is essential for entry into the exam hall. Without it, candidates will not be granted access to the exam questions.
