WAEC Opens Registration for 2026 GCE First Series

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially opened registration for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, first series. Interested candidates are advised to begin their registration early, as the examination fee is ₦27,000 and the registration window will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to go through all the information provided to ensure a smooth and successful registration process

Examination Registration
  • Registration for the 2026 WASSCE for Private Candidates (First Series) will be done online only. After purchasing the Registration PIN, candidates are required to visit www.waeconline.org.ng to complete their registration.
  • Registration can be completed at accredited banks, approved cyber cafés, WAEC offices, and official WAEC Registration Points closest to the candidate.

The registration process includes biometric capture, which will be used to confirm candidates’ identities at the examination centers. Candidates should take this seriously to avoid issues during the exam.

Registration Period
  • Normal registration will close on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Payment Method

The registration fee is Twenty-Seven Thousand Naira (₦27,000) only. Candidates can make payment at any branch of the banks listed below or through approved agents to obtain their Registration PIN and information VCD:

Candidates are also required to pay an additional ₦500 commission to the bank or accredited agent.

For cashless payments, candidates may purchase the registration token using debit or credit cards through approved platforms such as Bancwize, Paga, Palmpay, Interswitch, Xpress Payment, Paycom, Coralpay, Etranzact, IQ Pay, Unified Payments, Fidelity Bank, UBA, Kudi, Capricorn Ltd, and other listed providers.

Walk-in Candidates

Candidates who miss the normal registration deadline may still register as Walk-in Candidates, provided registration is completed at least 24 hours before the examination they intend to sit for. The walk-in registration fee is ₦45,000 only.

Candidates with Special Needs

Candidates with special needs will register online like all other candidates but must clearly state their condition during registration, such as visual impairment, low vision, hearing difficulty, speech challenges, spastic conditions, and others.

Important Notice
  • Candidates must complete their registration within two weeks of first accessing the registration portal. They should carefully check that their personal details—such as name, gender, date of birth, passport photograph, and selected subjects—are correct.
  • After registration, candidates must print their Admission Notice, which serves as proof of successful registration and will be required for identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be included on the Admission Notice. Only the UareU DigitalPersona fingerprint scanner is accepted for biometric capture.
General Information
  • The examination will be computer-based. Objective papers will be fully CBT, while essay and practical papers will be hybrid—questions will appear on the screen, but answers will be written in booklets.
  • An online mock examination will be organised for interested candidates. Details will be shared via SMS, email, and social media.
  • The registration fee is not refundable.
  • Candidates should regularly check the website for the examination timetable.
  • Passport photographs must be captured with a digital camera (Microsoft HD 3000 standard). Photos must be clear, in colour or black and white, JPEG format, 275 × 314 pixels, with a contrasting background and no obstructions. Poor-quality photos will lead to disqualification.
  • Candidates should download and study the examination regulations and syllabuses from the WAEC website using their Registration PIN.
  • Candidates must attend the examination in mufti. No uniforms or weapons are allowed.
  • Results will be cancelled for candidates who sit for the exam in more than one centre.
  • Smoking is prohibited in the examination hall.
  • Any candidate found with mobile phones or electronic devices will have their entire results cancelled.
  • WAEC will not accept requests to correct errors caused by wrong information supplied during registration.
  • Candidates must come to the exam hall with their original Admission Notice.
  • Examination malpractice can lead to result cancellation and possible prosecution.
  • Candidates must provide valid email addresses and phone numbers during registration.
